What a Difference a Day Makes in a Baby Boomer's Life

Back in 1959, a singer named Dinah Washington won a Grammy for her rendition of the song, “What a Difference a Day Makes.”

My parents had the record which they played quite often. OK---I'm showing my age but this blog is for baby boomers who can reflect back on days gone by.

Anyway, I have always loved that song for a number of reasons. First, I love Dinah Washington’s sultry voice and especially the duets she used to do with Brook Benton. Second, the song has such meaning. Even though she is singing about romance, I can’t help but think of how much life can change in just 24 little hours.

In a 24 hour period, I almost lost my daughter. I went from having a child on the brink of death to being able to walk out of the hospital---what a difference that day made. In another 24 hour period, my husband was hundreds of miles away but was returned safely to me.

I’m learning not to take anything for granted because I understand more and more that 24 hours can change the course of your life forever.

“What a diff'rence a day makes
Twenty-four little hours
Brought the sun and the flowers
Where there used to be rain

My yesterday was blue, dear
Today I'm part of you, dear
My lonely nights are through, dear
Since you said you were mine

What a diff'rence a day makes
There's a rainbow before me
Skies above can't be stormy
Since that moment of bliss, that thrilling kiss

It's heaven when you
Find romance on your menu
What a diff'rence a day makes
And the difference is you

What a diff'rence a day makes
There's a rainbow before me
Skies above can't be stormy
Since that moment of bliss, that thrilling kiss

It's heaven when you
Find happiness on your menu
What a diff'rence a day makes
And the difference is you.

Thank You Hallmark for Listening to this Baby Boomer

Those of you who read my blog regularly may recall when I wrote about my all expenses paid trip to the Hallmark Headquarters in Kansas City. I was one of seven Bloggers chosen by the greeting card company to give feedback on a new line of cards called: Journeys. Four out of the seven of us were baby boomers.

Well I gave them my HONEST opinions about a lot of stuff and I even offered suggestions---as did the other bloggers who attended.

Folks, Hallmark really LISTENED to us and has come up with another contest, at our suggestion. Check it out:

Hallmark is launching the second phase of the consumer card design contest today, which invites people to make their pets the star of the show. They are asking America to send in their funniest, most endearing, cutest, or most creative pet photos, along with a corresponding “birthday” greeting. As with the last contest, these entries will be judged and voted upon, and the winners will be turned into actual greeting cards.

Sixty-seven finalists will have the opportunity to have their cards printed and sold to the public and to winning cash prizes. In addition to being sold in stores, the grand prize winner’s card will be available for sale at hallmark.com for at least a year and may become part of another card collection! That person also will win $1,000 PLUS a trip to Hallmark with their pet for a professional photo shoot and workshop with Hallmark’s creative team.

People can log in at www.hallmark.com/you anytime between now and Feb. 3 to upload their best pet photo and birthday greeting.

Thank you Hallmark for listening to what we baby boomers have to say.

Menopause isn't the only thing Baby Boomer Women have to worry about

Menopause isn't the only thing baby boomer women have to worry about as we age. Buying a BAD PAIR of shoes can be brutal on your feet. That's just what happened to a woman in Florida who purchased a pair of Chinese-made flip flops from a Wal-Mart store in her community.

Now my mama always said you get what you pay for so......paying $2.44 should've been her first clue that a problem could arise. Next: the "made in China" tag would've definitely raised a red flag. But I'll be the first to admit that I'm always looking for a bargain.

Unfortunately, after seeing the aftermath of what a pair of flip flops from Wal-Mart did to this Florida woman's feet, I'd much rather do it the Yabba Dabba Do Flinstone way!
